Tan Dun, a famous Chinese composer and conductor, and Suzhou Symphony Orchestra (SZSO) jointly gave a wonderful concert at the Grand Theatre of SIP’s Suzhou Culture and Arts Centre on Nov 13. It was the fifth time that Tan and SZSO shared a stage.
The concert comprised two parts. The first part features the screening of 13 micro films and the performance of a series of symphony works Tan created for the purpose of popularizing Nv Shu, the world’s only known written language for women that dates back more than a thousand years in Central China’s Hunan province.
The second part features the performance of the “Pictures at an Exhibition” by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky with the Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky’s paintings as the backdrop.
“The micro films and music works about Nv Shu show the audiences Chinese women’s strong beliefs in family, life and future,” Tan said.
