2024 Jinji Lake Dragon Boat Race kicks off

The 2024 Jinji Lake Dragon Boat Race kicked off at Moon Harbor, SIP on June 10 to celebrate the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival which, reckoned on the fifth day of the fifth month on the Chinese lunar calendar, fell on the day this year.



A total of 1,418 people in 66 teams competed in the event. Of them, 51 teams competed in the 22-people, 12-men and 12-women 300-meter straightaway races in the open group and the 12-men 300-meter straightaway race in the enterprises and public institutions’ group, and 15 teams competed in the 12-people 300-meter straightaway race and 22-youngster 300-meter straightaway race in the invitational contest.



Seven teams of expatriates from 15 countries and regions partook in the event. As this year marks the 30th anniversary of SIP’s inception under China-Singapore cooperation, a Singaporean team was invited. And an Austria team participated in the event under a cultural exchange program. Under the program, the dragon boat team from Suzhou Youth Chamber of Commerce will later attend the dragon boat race on the Danube in Vienna, Austria.



A two-day fair was held concurrently, with over 50 booths showing traditional Chinese handicrafts and techniques that are recognized as intangible cultural heritage. Diverse food products, coupons and digital red envelopes with monetary gifts were offered.

There was also a comprehensive consumption experience zone with advanced devices for people to experience various sports such as football, archery and skiing.
